Starting problem on a 93 Ranger
 

I am needing some help with a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT.

At the moment, the truck turns over but does not start. The spark plugs are not fireing, any ideas?

It could be a number of things. The engine needs gas, air, and spark (battery) to start. It sounds like your starter is turning. So... Do you hear the fuel pump charge the ssytem when you turn the key before actually trying to start the engine? Are you getting pressure in the fuel line? If you spray starter fluid in the intake does it run then cut off?

Yes, everything else is working but the spark plugs.

Have your coil packs and control module tested, auto zone and murrays does this for free.

88 Ranger 2.3 won't start
 

I'm having similar problems with my 88 Ranger 4cylinder 2.3L. Changed Cap, Rotor, Spark plugs & Wires, Coil, and today the Module, getting spark now but still won't start and now it has black/grey smoke coming from the engine, any ideas.....Is it dead !!

Could be a fuel problem.

Do you always have spark? If you always have spark at the plugs, then the ignition system is probably ok.

If so, then rent a fuel pressure gauge from any Autozone. With that in mind, check your fuel pressure and tell us what it is.

Check the link below in autolibrary that I have for fuel pressure specs, etc.

Something you can check,
now that the engine will at least start and run, remove one or two plugs form different cylinders and look at what they show. If very wet and black either there is an overfueling issue or the cylinders were flooded with so much fuel it takes a short while to clear the cylinders / plugs.
Did you have this problem before changing all the above parts or did the problem come up after changing the parts?
