Truck bouncing
 

I have a 2003 ford ranger tremor. 2wd . I put new brake shoes and drums on rear. With new hardware kit. When the tensioner tightens up, the truck starts to bounce. And when i loosen the tensioner, the truck drive like it should. Now... i need shocks bad (i can crumple the shock with my hand (rusted)). Will this cause the truck to bounce or is it the brakes? Also i just put new tries and got an alignment. And bearings are tight ( there is no wiggle in tire).


Before i put the new drums on the rear, i put the pads on 1st and put the old drums on. When i was doing this i notice that my drums were whooped . I went ahead and tightened them up and drove it for a few days before i put new drums on.

Im wondering what i should do or need to look for.

if the bounce occurs only when you apply the brakes...the brakes are the problem. are you saying the bounce occurred when the brakes were applied?
next time the bounce occurs, take note if there is a pulsation transmitted into the brake pedal. if it does, your new drums may need machining. I have seen new drums be 0.010" out of round from new. this will cause a brake shake.

It Bounces when the truck is in motion. Even when i apply brakes it bounces. I bought shocks today and will be put on tomorrow. ( they need to be changed anyways) if that doesn't work then ill measures and see what spec the drums and at. Thanks for you help!

not sure what a bounce is but a shimmy, shake or vibration that occurs at all times may be tire or u-joint related.


replacing obviously worn parts, like your shocks, is never a bad idea.

Agreed, I would start with the shocks even if they aren't the culprit. If you have the ability to get the car on a lift I would check the tires for separation as well.
