Will new engine increase re-sale value of truck?

I have a 92' Ford Ranger XLT with automatic transmission. It needs a new engine. It does not have a clean title history. It was rear-ended a few years ago. But it was repaired fine. It has many new parts and repair receipts too.

If I put a new engine in this truck, will I be able to re-sell it at a higher value? It would cost thousands to install a new engine. Is there a market for older Ford Rangers?

Personal opinion would be to sell 'AS-IS". Even if you put a new/rebuilt engine in, I would be looking a the truck like this:

"It's 16 years old and has everything else xxxx, xxx miles on it. I could buy it today with the new/rebuilt engine and the tranny could fall apart tomorrow."

The problem is, is there someone who would pay you the increased cost of a new engine? I doubt it. Older vehicles are just that, older. Not too many folks are looking to pay 4-5 thousand dollars for a 92. I just sold my 90 model, at 265,000 miles, for 2K. It was in very good condition, as I have all the reciepts for maintance and repair on it since it was new. I would sell it as is and let the new owner fix it.
