rear axle leaking
New to forum.
I have a 2001 ford explorer sports trac. I recently noticed some oil stains on both sides of the rear axle. I was told by my local Ford parts guy that he has seen quite a few of these trucks with that problem. Recommended replacing axle seals. I've got 95800 miles on it. I've also been told that it could be the release valve/vent hose assembly on the rear end might be clogged. Does anyone have some advice/info that could help me out? |
check the rear end for fluid level first of all....is it low?
this is a common problem....pull rear wheels and brakes to check for leaks in axle seals Hopefully you haven't ran the gear oil outta the rear end.....does it howl when driving down the road...getting louder with increased vehicle speed? if so...then its too late and your gears are scored and are gonna sing to you till you rebuild rear end......... |
rear axle leak
Thanks,
I did check the wheels & brakes. Everything is dry. No oil. And the oil level is good. I also don't hear any howling when I've got it on the road. So I'll keep my eyes & ears on it. |
