Default '04 Taurus: Driver's door freezes open

This is the third winter I have dealt with this: my driver's side door freezes open. It can last anywhere from a few minutes to easily over half an hour! It doesn't seem to matter what I spray for lubricant or how long I let it sit to warm up, it continues to do it during low temperatures.
I was told that it's a FORD thing, but I don't know how to fix this. I'm a lady, so please give me clear directions on how to fix if you respond. Thanks so much!

Try spraying WD-40 or similar lube on the door check (bar that keeps door from opening too far). Just a shot in the dark, never run into this before.
