1997 Ford Taurus Firewall...

I am in the middle of installing a stereo system. I need to run a 4 gauge power wire through the firewall to the battery. I can't find any rubber gromets to take off and drill through.

I am wondering if anyone knew a good spot on the driver's side to drill through to get the power wire to the engine bay.

Thanks,
Bill

Bump.

Anyone? I need some suggestions so I don't go drilling through anything.

Can't say I've ever run accessory power for the Taurus.. But there should be a harness/bulkhead pass though that you could squeak a wire through with some help.. Or add a hole with a grommet up higher on the floor panel but below the dash far enough away from anything 'drillable'.... Possibly the ebrake cable grommet/pass through...

Yep, brake cable grommet. That's where I went thru on my 2000 taurus.

4 AWG wire? Man, that's gotta be some system your putting in since 4AWG wire is rated at 105A max per NFPA70.

Could anyone snap a quick picture for me where the break cable gromet is?

Eh, not too much of a system. No subwoofer or anything. Just a SoundStream XTA480.2 (110 RMS watts x 2 channels @ 4 ohms) powering a set of Cadence CWM6-KIT 6.5" component speakers (100 RMS watts @ 4 ohms).

A 4 AWG will support up to 1323 watts RMS continuous. Since you're amplifier is capable of 240 watts RMS @ 4 ohms or 960 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, a8 AWG wire will work with room to spare and is easier to work with. If you put your left foot on your foot rest, the grommet is located under your heel. Go to the lower left corner of your drivers door. It's about 6 inches under the card from that point.

Aye, but in the car audio world, it's better off to go too big. Hmm, thanks for the location description. We couldn't find a good spot for the life of us then it got dark out so we had to call it quits.
