1998 Ford Taurus

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus that went dead yesterday. When we popped the hood, there was battery acid on the connection cables. So we cleaned that off, and got new cables, and the battery is good. So now the car runs, but the Windows, wipers, and dome lights are now not working. And this is a problem because its winter in Michigan and one window is down. So although the car runs, it can not be driven. Any ideas?

Look in your owner's manual and see which fuses control those functions. Then check those fuses. After that you can try to disconnect the negative battery cable and wait a few minutes then touch the negative cable end to the positive cable end then reconnect the negative cable to the battery and see if it gets rid of the problem. One of the window switches could be defective . There is a body control module that controls some of those functions, but all the other options should be checked out first.

Was the window that won't work, down and the switch got wet?

Thanks. Still looking for the problem.

Do the affected items work when placed in gear? Ford had a problem with the transmission range sensors on that era Taurus. Just a thought
