1998 ford taurus gl broken????

Ok, So I was driving all morning with no problems. We pulled over to a garage sale and turned off my car (1998 Ford Taurus GL). when i got back into my car, i turned it on and it was fine. I shifted into drive and took my foot off the brake and onto gas and nothing. It was like it was stuck in park or something. I tried reverse, still nothing. I released my parking break just incase I had put it on, but nada. I turned off my car, turned it back on, same thing.
We put it into nutreul and tried to push it and then tried drive but still NOTHING.... what could be going on.... btw transmission fluid was fine... but hasnt been change lately, and i have been reading the forums and saw something about a filter... I AM A GIRL!!! I KNOW NADA ABOUT CARS lol..

The shift cable may have come loose or broken. You can raise the hool and look down on the drivers side close to the windshield. The shift linkage hooks up to the transmission there. Have someons shift the car and see if anything moves there. here is a thing there that looks like the thing in the picture below. There should be a lever and a cable attached to the lever.

actually the man at the garage sale was checking the cables under the hood while i shifted in the car... then he tried shifting it from under the hood and my lever moved.. so *sigh* i dont think thats it. I have done some searching though and saw something about blockage or a filter... could this be a problem too? ty so much for replying btw :D
