Default 2000 Tarus help?

Hello, I have a 2000 Tarus with a 3.0 auto and am having some trouble I can't seem to figure out.
I'll be driving along, maybe 45 mph, on cruise, radio on, and then I turn on the heat. The panel lights all turn on, there's a hesitation, not quite a stall, and I'm bumped out of cruise. That's happened a couple times. I no longer turn on the ac compressor or heater while the car is going down the road, only when it's stopped.

I'll stop the car, and turn the key to off and pull it out. The power locks won't unlock, and the dome light will flicker on and off. Also, the 'security' panel light flicks on and off, and there is a distinct 'ticking' sound. If I put the key back in the ignition, and turn as if to crank the car (but not actually cranking the car), the flickering will stop and the power locks will work.

Sometimes when I turn the key to start the car, nothing (not even a click) will happen, and the 'security' panel light will be on, and the dome light will flicker. They will continue to flicker if I open the door, instead of having a steady light. If I turn the key back and forth a couple times, then the car will start.

Also, sometimes I'll not be able to lock or unlock the car by remote. One time I had to use the key to unlock the door in order to get in and (attempt) to start the car. That happened last Saturday night. Then after I got in, it took three attempts (turning the key in the ignition) before I could crank the car. In advance thanks to any and all who try to help.

Sound like an issue withing the steeringcolumn area. Ignition Switch, Multifunction Switch or Cruise Switches as they all reside in the steering column. Also check for clean battery terminal contact surfaces.
