2001 Taurus- Blinker lights stay solid?

Hello! Recently, I have had a problem I have never encountered before.

When I start my car and turn on my lights, my dash (speedometer etc), willl not light up, but my 2 blink lights will light up solid green. They will work fine and blink when I turn left and right, but when not signalling they stay illuminated a solid green.

It makes it impossible to see my speed at night. The weird thing is, sometimes the dash lights work fine right away no problem, sometime the rest of the dash lights come on after 5 minutes, and sometimes it takes forever.

I don't know much about the workings of cars so that is why I came here.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Usually when this happens the dash lights are using the signal lite indicators for their ground. There is a good possibility there is a poor ground connection for the dash lights and one of the things you might try is to just look for wires that connect to the sheet metal under the hood and see if any might be loose.
