My 2003 Taurus has been running erratic after short stops. I will drive it somewhere for a while, shut it off and try to start 5 minutes or so later and it will not idle correctly. If I give it a while, shut it off and it will run fine

I'd check for troublecodes, around my area, Autozone will check codes for free.

The IAC system can cause idle issues, I wouldn't replace without doing some testing. A comtaminated maf sensor can cause idle issues. There are several possible causes.
