2003 Taurus 3.0 OHV Cam Damper
 

I can't find Top Dead Center TDC on the camshaft damper the manual shows marks on the damper but there is none. How do I find TDC there is an arrow on the engine cover but nothing to line up to it!! what do I use to align without using a compression sensor in the #1 cylinder???:confused:

take out #1 plug and put your finger on or over the hole, when you feel the compression or your finger being pushed out of hole your on the right stroke insert a long screwdriver into the hole and manually turn the engine over until the screwdriver stops being pushed out and begins to drop back in that's tdc

i spun the cam damper several times and could feel nothing on my finger while the plug was out on the #1 cylinder??????:confused:

you'r supposed to turn the crank when trying to get it tdc

If I may, you guys are talking two different languages.
So everybody is on the same page, the part with the timing marks on it is called the crankshaft pulley or vibration damper. The cam parts are entirely different.
I think what Grindman is asking you to do involves using the key and starter to turn over the engine so you can feel the pressure coming out of the #1 plug hole. You need to notice the direction of normal rotation when cranking so you can complete the rise of the #1 piston to top dead center. You need to disable either the spark or the fuel so the engine won't start on you when feeling for the pressure increase. That #1 hole can be a dog to get to to this depends how much junk is in the way. To prevent any addl codes from coming up , what I do is ; find the inertia switch and while the engine is running rap that switch so it trips and the fuel pump stops and the engine runs out of gas. Crank it a few more times , now you can remove the plug and crank the engine and it shouldn't start . Just don't forget to reset the inertia switch when done or the fuel pump will not work.

not at all Hanky, but I think we both may have forgot to ask something and, that is if the timing belt has been removed or not if that be the case then it's whole different ball game
