2007 Taurus electrical problem? Please help I am supposed to be going out of town

I have a 2007 taurus and today when i was leaving work I put the key in and the gauges started quivering really fast and when I turned the key all it would do is turn over and not start-up. I turned it back off and on did it again. I turned the key again and it started up and ran for maybe 3 seconds and died. Then I turned it again and it was just turning over until i pressed the accelerator down and it started up and ran. When it started the tach took about 5 seconds before it moved up the scale. It ran fine all the way home and cranked right up when I got here. I also noticed that the AVG miles per gallon goes to 0.0 every time it does this. and the trip meter rezeroed itself also. Any ideas what it may be?

Thanks Henry

Sometimes a defective coil can do this.
