What is the best way to test if an a/c clutch or compressor is going bad? I have a 99 Taurus which is making squeaking noises when the compressor is in operation, just listening to it I would suspect the clutch but I did just have to put a charge of refrigerant/oil in to the system about a week ago due to low levels. I'm going to try to get a stethoscope on it and figure out exactly where the noise is coming from.

 

Any advice on the difficulty in changing an a/c clutch bearing? It seems that if anything was going to fail on an a/c clutch it would be the bearing.
