I needed to get a new catalytic converter for my 2007 Ford Taurus. I entered all the correct information as well as the engine code (U) from my Vin number. When we went to put it on we noticed the catalytic converter is smaller then the one previous on the car. The length is correct - it's just the actual converter that is smaller in size.

I went to return it and was told that any catalytic converter that I buy will be smaller in size unless I buy it directly from the dealership.

Does this sound right?

Is there any issue with putting on the smaller one?

 

As long as you can hook it up properly, the size will have very little if any effect on the system. Just a question, how many miles on the Taurus? The emissions warranty is 8 years or 80,000 miles.
