Electric fan
 

Anyone know if it's normal for the electric fan to run for a while when the engine first fires up? I have noticed it doing that the past few times I have started the car. When I got to work 20 miles later, I didn't hear it running. I'd think it would be running when the engine is hot not cold. But ya never know w/the newer cars.

If it is in A/C, MAX A/C, or defrost modes, the A/C compressor will cycle on, and yes the fan will come on. It is normal.

thanks. i rarely run the a/c and maybe i turned it on by accident and heard the fan when I was warming up the engine.

I have a 98 Taurus and the electric fan comes on at startup, plus, the engine has a fast idle, too.
I also have a 05 F 150 5.4l and it, too, has the coolant fans and fast idle at startup. No matter what the outside temperature is. Last winter at minus 15 degrees the electric fans come on-CRAZY!
I wonder if a person could reflash the ECU. 1800 RPM on a cold morning seems too high.
