ringing noise when a/c on
anyone replace an a/c compressor clutch? Before I disable the car, I want to make sure I can remove it from the compressor without any special tools.
Its a 2006 taurus SE, 3.0L |
You just need basic tools to replace the clutch assembly. Just look closely at the nose of the compressor to be sure the snap ring groove is not worn .

depending on which engine you have, you may need to drop part of the frame and access the compressor from underneath. thats what I had to do on my '04, $690.00 for total job.

the compressor clutch final gave out so I couldn't put it off anymore.
the compressor came out very easy (I have the base engine), within 30min. here's how -recovered the a/c at work -disconnect the neg battery terminal -move the fuse box to the side -remove the serpentine belt -remove both cooling fans -disconnect the a/c clutch and 02 connector wiring -remove the comp inlet and outlet hose from the compressor -remove the 4 a/c bolts -remove the a/c comp to the left side of the rad and up and out now I have to see if GM a/c tools can help remove and replace the clutch from the compressor. |
replaced the A/C compressor clutch today. The only special tools I required was a 3 jaw puller, to remove the pulley and then the field coil. It could have been hammered off, as long as you have a new one to go back on.
The new field coil is suppose to be pressed on with a special tool. I cleaned the compressor mounting flange and then gently hammered (on the inside flange) the coil into place. everything else just drops into place. Charged the system and everything is quiet and Cold. Cost was $82 vs $240 for a compressor. |
