Here's the deal, I bought an 02 Taurus used, only had one key. I had a locksmith create a second. He told me at the time that there were now a total of 6 keys programmed according to his programmer. I assume the previous owners had a few programmed over the years.

I need 3 additional, so I bought blanks and had them cut. I was able to successfully program 2 additional ones in the car, but not a 3rd.

I did some reading and found out you can only program a total of 8, and I'm suspecting that's my problem. I've hit the magic 8 number, and it won't let me program anymore.

If so, can this be reset or am I just out of luck ? Is it something I can do with a ODB reader tool ?

You may be able to go to the dealer. I think you can reset the security system and allow more keys to be programmed. Or they can erase all the system and start making keys all over again.
