1955 speedo issue

I've been working on the non-working speedometer and found that the spring clip was damaged that connects the speedo head to the cable. I ordered and received another one. However, I believe there was a 1" or so plastic sleeve that the spring clip was suppose to be seated in order to reach the main cable and would make it long enough to reach it's destination in the speedo head- before I was able to analyze the problem (not to mention become a contortionist under the steering wheel multiple times to reach it, I could have sworn there was a plastic sleeve that connected the cable to the spring clip- I may have ptsd from working on this for hours, but anyone have experience with replacing the spring clip and this plastic sleeve- am I mistaken about the sleeve? Thanks for your assistance!

Not sure if , Vintage Parts Inc.
Beaver Dam, Wisc. can offer what you need
It is no big deal to remove the dash gauge assy speedo and all, then you can have a much better idea of what you might need and all you need to do is make sure you can pull the speedo cable casing back far enough to see everything. You might need to make sure the cable casing is not anchored anyplace under the hood so it would be free to go inside the vehicle for you to see everything without disconnecting anything.
