Default Weird noise in 96 Thunderbird!

I own a 96' thunderbird as well as a 99 taurus and both seem to be having issues at the moment but my T-bird has been making a very weird noise when the transmission is under strain (up hills, or fast acceleration) It almost sounds like a metal vibration, and feels like it's coming from the front end.
I have had many "suggestions" as to what it could be and have sank alot of money into those duggestions, but never ends up being the right thing...anybody heard of such a noise?? [:-]
BTW we checked the motor mounts and all vacuum lines...I'm hoping this isn't a tranny problem..I LOVE this car (although we are in the midst of selling it) but I cannot fit my 2 kids in the back seat comfortably anymore
thanx!

96 Thunderbird Specs:

First, I'd check the cover on the catalytic converter. They are known to work loose and vibrate like that. Then I'd maybe look at the transmission - check the fluid and see if it's a reddish (OK) or brownish (bad- burnt) color.

If you have high miles it may not hurt to have the transmission fluid and filter changed also.
