Your Transmission (might be) equipped with a Modulator Valve which would be located on the outside casing of the transmission somewhere. It will have a small vacuum hose connected to it. If there is no vacuum getting to it, it could cause the problem you are having. A bad/defective Modulatorcould also cause the same problem.
Note: This may not be what is wrong....but it's one of the most common things that causes Ford transmission to have shifting problems. GOOD LUCK!!

A problem in the Overdrive is usually best resolved at a garage. I would agree to look for a bad vacuum hose. The vacuum is usually to pull on the OD though - I'm not sure if vacuum also pulls it off? Whatever you do - do not try to service the OD yourself. The springs are under enough pressure and must be serviced with care to prevent serious injury or death. The pressure is what can also cause OD trans. internal failure.
