1975 ford gas mileage

alrite i have a 1975 ford f-150 with the 390 in it and it didnt get good gas mileage to start out with but a couple weeks ago it started getting way worse. i looked around and i couldnt see any gas leaking. i was told maybe a carburetor kit would be the solution. any thoughts?
thanks

Before digging into the carburator, when was the normal drivability/fuel mileage affecting items changed last? These would be plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, air filter and fuel filter. If these are all good, then I would start with checking to ensure that the choke opens fully when the engine is warmed up. If it doesn't open fully, you'll be running rich all the time. Do you have a 2 Bbl or a 4 Bbl carb?
