1996 Escort 1.9 eng:What sensors tell the motor to go to a "cold start" high idle?
 

Ok, help me out , folks.... Obviously when it's warm out the car starts and goes to "curb idle". But when it's cold out, what components or sensors"tell" the engine that it's cold out and it needs to go to a high idle upon starting? Must be some ambient temperature sensor somewhere? Thanks for any input! What I want to do, is try to "trick" the IAC into thinking that it's warm out since the damn thing goes to 3K RPM's on a cold start & stays there until warmup....(1996 Escort LX, 1.9 automatic.) OK.... grab a beer & think about this one[sm=icon_guiness.gif]

The temp sensor for air intake is the (IAT) INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. Being you have a 1996, it may be built into the MAF sensor. It used to be a seperate sensor until Ford started integrating it into the MAF sensor starting about 1995.

Also ect/cht. check for vaccum leaks. It should'nt be idling at 3kwhen it's cold. 1500 2000 tops
