2001 Ford Escort ZX2

My 2001 Ford Escort ZX2 timing belt went out. Had a new timing kit put in it. The day i went to get it the check engine light came back on and the car wont idle now. It dies every time you slow down or stop. It runs good down the highway but when you slow down you can feel it miss out. Does the computer need to be reset once you have your belt replaced?? I took it back and he said it was timed correctly. But i dont really trust him at this moment. At first he told me tha valves and everything needed to be replaced because it had a interferance in it. I had already called and it had the engine in it that did not get damaged if your timing belt went out. So he lied to me there. Took it back replaced the cam sensor valve, check engine light still on and the car still dies. Can someone please help me?????????????????? Thank you. It has a 2.0 DOHC engine

First suggestion is find a new mechanic.

Another possible thing to do is go to an Autozone or Kragen and have them check your code. They usually do this for free. Then that can give you more of an idea of what is going on.

I recentlr replaced the timing belt just as you have done and am experiencing the very same problems. The code that keeps appearing is P0340 which is the camshaft position sensor circuit. I just got a new CPS or CMP whichever you want to call it and plan on putting it on tonight, if it works, I'll respond tommorrow and tell you the good news. If not, one friend thinks I may have put the belt in 1 notch off, if so, I guess I'll have to take it to a qualified mechanic and not the "hack" I had work on it. I also put a deal on ford-forums.com and have yet only had people read and not any solutions given.
