2003 Expedition - turn signal keep stopping

:( My 2003 Ford Expedition has a "haunted" turn signal. Whenever I am at a stop light waiting to turn, and have the directional on, it stops blinking. I restart it and it blinks a few times and then stops again. Really annoying. I have to flash by hand in order for someone to know I'm trying to make a left turn. Looked in the manual but didn't see anything specific. Any clues before my husband takes a sledge hammer to it?

Just in case it isn't in the fuse box, Use the sound it makes to locate it under the dash. You might need to remove some plastic dash covering, but if it is in there, it is much easier to find when you can hear it clicking . Many times it is mounted on the passenger side of the steering column. Not to worry , your husband will have a tougher time getting the sledge hammer in there !
