Default 89 f-250 automatic tranny problem

I have an annoying problem. When I am coming to a stop at a light or stop sign, my truck lurches when shifting from 2nd into 1st gear. It's not a violent lurch, but it is noticeable and it bothers me. Does anyone know what I should look for, or what I should check so I don't end up stuck somewhere with a truck that only has one gear? I thought it might be a vacuum hose or low fluid, but I don't know anything about transmissions, so I'm coming to all of you hoping that someone may have an answer. Thank you for any advise that I can get.

Bad catalytic converters can cause motor lurch at low speeds. Could be trans shift problem. Check transmission fluid when engine is warmed up and in park. If fluid is brown - change fluid and filter.

Thanks for the advise, goinstrong. I am scheduling a tranny service this week with the local engine shop, and I will let them know about what you said. Thanks again for the heads-up.

No problem - just keep in mind a filter and fluid change shouldn't cost too much. You may want to shop around unless you have a very trustworty shop (if those exist any more). For example : I can do that kind of service for myself for well under $100. And I can buy converters for $100 or less themselves. So all in all I'd shoot for under $200 if I were doing both.
