89 Ford F150 4x4 fuel switch valve

Hi, I'm a new member, I have a 89 Ford F150 4x4 long bed with dual tanks, but the front tank has some real issues and I would like to just remove it and only run on the back tank, because the fuel switch valve some times returns the fuel to the front tank and I have siphon it out and put back in the back tank (usually every few days), sometimes it works fine and returns to the back tank, I tried to replace the valve but was told they stoped making it and if I stop off the other line it may cause a fire, so does any one know how I can get rid of the valve and the front tank the right and safe way? it has a inline six(300) with a 4 speed standard with Granny gear, I use the truck for work and fishing on the weekends(and fun in the mud)so the back tank is enough for me, all responses will be appreciated, Thank You.
