98 taurus wagon oil concerns

Hi, I was wondering if any of you out there have had this kind of trouble with the 3.0L DOHC.
When the motor is warm for a conciderable amout of time when the rpm's dip below 1000 like at a stop light I get the oil light indicator.
anything above 1000 and it goes away.
It never seems to happen when it is cold, and i am using the recommended 5w20 good brand oil.
The local mechanic told me that it was probably ok but I am leary of this type of thing.
Any advice?

Has this just started? How many miles on the vehicle? What is your "GOOD BRAND" oil? How many miles since your last oil change? It's possible that the oil is not maintaining it viscocity and casuing a drop in oil pressure at the lower RPMs. This will cause oil starvation and eventual component failure. The 5W-20 standard was derived for auto makers to reduce the amount of hydrocarbon output and help meet their EPA CAFE requirements. A 5W-20 is more volitile and has a higher than normal evaporation rate determined by the Noack Volatility (ASTM D5800) test. I would try a 5W-30. Another cause could be a worn oil pump.

Hi, thanks for your reply,
Got the car in July 09,with 102k it has 112k now
immediately had to replace the oil pan gasket
Mechanic said things looked good no visible sign of problems underneath
Using a valvoline 5 20 with a fram filter i am pretty good about changes 3-4000 pretty regular. Almost all of my driving is highway 28 miles one way
There are no unusual sound associated with the low oil light coming on thats why it kind of weird to me
Thanks for the tip will change to the 5 30 next oil change and see whjat happens
