anyone have anything to say about jasper engines?
 

im looking into a jasper engine and was wondering if anyone had any luck with them?

Have had satisfactory results with Jasper engines and transmissions, but have heard some horror stories also. If you follow the recommendations they provide with their products, usually everything is OK.

Jasper is a good rebuilder for Ford. They lack a little on other brands, but they are really good on Ford for some reason.

Here's my experience on JASPER rebuilds while working at a Ford Dealership:

1993 Ford Aerostar 3.0 with blown engine.

Jasper rebuild #1: Installed and started up. Could not build up any oil pressure. Called Jasper Rep and was shipped another engine.

Jasper rebuild #2: Installed and started up. Again, no oil pressure. Called Jasper Rep again. We wanted to open the first two engine, but was advised by the Jasper Rep that they would not warranty the engines if I did. Jasper shipped another engine.

Jasper rebuild #3: Installed and this one actually worked.

Had Jasper Rep come to the dealership as I wanted to open the first two engines up to see what the problem was (If they wanted us to continue to using their products). Finally got the Go-Ahead and this is what we found.

Engine #1: NO pick-up tube for the oil pump. (Nice pre-testing by Jasper)

Engine #2" Pick-up tube laying in the bottom of the oil pan (Again, nice pre-testing by Jasper)

But hey, that was back in 2002.

Then there's the time shortly there after that the transmission in my 1994 Sable finally died at 187,000 miles. The Jasper Rep seen me working on it and asked if I was going to use a Jasper tranny.

Q. Well what kind of price are we talking and what does it include?
A. $2,200 and a 3/3600 warranty.
Q. Does it include a new torque converter?
A. No, that costs extra.

Thanks, but no thanks. I can get an AAMCO tranny which includes a new torque converter and a transferable LIFETIME warranty for $1200. And I only need to have it run for another year or so anyways.

Rep said that AAMCO's are junk, thus prompting me to piont out their quality engines from a month earlier (this is where I got the deer in the headlight look).

Put my AAMCO tranny in, drove it for another 2 years then sold it. It's still running around the area with who knows how many miles on it. The last I knew the tranny never made a peep.

Then there's the diesel engine fiascos (That's another story all together).

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

well i was planning on just changing engines, not having one rebuilt, it has a 302 now and i was gunna switch it to a 351w and a new oreillys transmission (or have a local place rebiuld the old one)
