Default Automatic shifter won't lock into park

I have a 2000 Focus LX with an automatic transmission. We had the key stuck in the ignition and couldn't remove it. I thought it was the tumbler. Come to find out the shifter lever doesn't lock into park. If I push hard enough or tap on it with my palm, I will hear a click and it will lock into park. Then I can turn the key another 1/4" and remove the key. I read somewhere that the linkage needs adjusting? I don't know how to get to it or how to adjust it. If someone could give some instructions, maybe pictures.

Replace the shifter. These always were a problem on the Focus. That will solve the problem with the interlock (which isn't availble seperately).
