Is it best to become a general auto repair tech or an auto specialty tech?

Does it pay more to specialize, if so, what?

To be really good, you need to be a good general tech and then specialize in one area. Reasoning is, a good general tech can work anywhere, a drivability tech has to find a specific opening to find a job. I hire ASE master certified techs as they have been trained in all areas of the repair field. I can not justify hiring a speciality tech due to the fact you never know what is coming in the door. If you specialize in brakes and no brake work comes in for a week, what are you going to do to get paid?
