Hi, I'm new to this site. I am 28 and I have a 1968 falcon futura. I am planning on buying a 4x4 ranger from 95-00. I know the 4.0 v6 is the best engine those year model rangers come with, I was wondering though, is there a better v6 engine that I can put in it that has better performance and just as good or better fuel economy? If not, then what can i do to the stock 4.0 engine that will help boost performance and fuel economy or atleast boost performance without sacrificing the stock fuel economy?

Not clear which vehicle are you proposing the new engine for, Falcon or Ranger?
Falcons came with in-line 6s, or a 302 V-8. If you are asking about BEST fuel economy, etc., for use in the Falcon, EFI conversion would no doubt prove the best choice. imp
