Default Best tires for 2001 for a 4wd Explorer sport

Im looking to replace the tires on my 2001 Exp. sport 4x4 here soon. The size is p255/70r16. Any ideas on what a good tire for the vehicle would be. I want something for mostly normal road use, with some light to moderate off road capability. Something that can handle a little bit of snow and ice or whatever we get in north texas. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Default RE: Best tires for 2001 for a 4wd Explorer sport

Just to give you an idea of the weather I drive thru, I live in the SNOWBELT just S/E of Buffalo, NY. I'm not a MICHELIN person due to past performance issues, but was very impressed with the Michelin® LTX® M/S that came on my 2001 Explorer Sport. They were P255/70R16's. I'm also partial to Cooper's Discover S/T tire. I ran a set of these on my 1997 Explorer Sport in the LT245/75R16 size. They were quieter than the Goodyear Rangler RT/S tires that came on my 97 Sport. I could also drive thru 6" of heavy slush on the highway and the 97 Sport wouldn't even flinch, where the Wranglers would hydroplane in 1/2" of water. Personal preference between the 2 tires, I would go with the Cooper's.
