Continuous stutter / rattle sound upon braking (98 Ford Windstar)

When coming to a stop about 50% of the time, going on 70% of the time there is an intermittent rattling sound, it engages when I barely step on the brakes or when I hit the brakes firmly. Its a sound that is directly underneath the left front and I can even feel it through the brake pedal itself while its rattling its a very annoying sound, almost like a refrigerator cycle on a hot day.

A local mechanic said he heard something about the ABS malfunctioning to make this kind of sound, but he was unsure and did not want to invest time without proper research, was wondering if I can be pointed in the right direction with this?

Thank you for your time and help.

It is possibly a bad wheel speed sensor thaty is reading wrong causing the ABS module to pulsate. If you can find a scan tool that will read ABS, you can pinpoint a bad sensor. The tool is a little more advanced than the one auto parts houses use. See if the mechanic has a scan tool that will read ABS.
