ecm's or can I swap computers?
my 90 f150 has a very high (2600) idle. I narrowed the problem down to the ecm. Its either faulty or has a bad ground/short.
My question can I swap a computer from a nother year/vehichle into the truck. It is an eec iv. My junk yard has two truck.....I have the pin out diagram for the 86-92? if I change the pins can I do it??? |
RE: ecm's or can I swap computers?
Sometimes you have 'some' room as far as years.. But PCM's are 'build specific' and should be checked/referenced to the case number on the PCM.. For instance,, a PCM from a truck of the same year that was optioned with an automatic, and was replaced with a PCMfrom a manual trans truck wouldn't work.. Nor would a V8 into a 6 ect.. Most dismantlers have an interchange book for referencing applications by the number on the unit, and/or should be able to locate you a good used unit with your number... If they can't, post your PCM number, with the two available if close to the same year/options

RE: ecm's or can I swap computers?
of course the spare ECM I have came from a 4.9L.... the two at the yard are codeA1Z and FUNO the FUNO is a 94. I don't know the other one... I know the A2Z is for a 5.8 I think there is a POP2 also. I know the PQP2 is a 4.9 but haven't a clue about the POP2...
Any decoding help is appreciated. |
RE: ecm's or can I swap computers?

RE: ecm's or can I swap computers?
Looks like..
F3TF-NC is for Base/Supercab F150-250 truck, 4.9L6 W/Manual Fedral Emissions.. 93-95.. F3TF-ADB is for E150-350 4.9L6, Auto trans/C6 (non E40D) 94-95 Does that look like the applications they were pulled from? |
RE: need help with a 5.0 problem!
this is my first time useing a forum so i hope im not butting in.
i got a problem with a mustang i purchased a year ago i belive its a ecu deal. its a 1990 5.0 5 spd with a lot of mods but im not sure if it was an autoconverted to a 5 spd before i got it. it was in a auction so i dont know who built it. it runs great untill i push in or let out the clutch or if i stick it in gear it some times dies? this has been driveing me crazy! iv check all my wireing and grounds with no results. if any one has heard of any thing like this please let me know. im ready to just go buy a new ecu to try but i know that that can get pricey if its not the problem. i have changed out wireing hareses on these cars before so i am a little familiar with them. |
