EGR valve code 401 ford explorer sport
I have a 2001 ford explorer sport (SUV) 4WD the check engine light came one when I did not have my gas cap on all the way.......Well Auto Zone said it was the EGR valve.......so I changed it. THe battery disconnect does not work on these models to reset the engine light.......so they reset the check engine light and the check engine light comes back on..........still comes up EGR valve 401 Has anyone else had this problem??
Yes if the fuel cap is loose it will lite up check eng lite . As for the CODE 401 , theres no such code sorry , prehaps it was miss typed ? , , But yes a EGR malfunction will lite the lite , No matter what you do the lite will not go out till you fix the problem , ,, Also you need to leave the Battery disconnected for a least 5 min to erase the code's , But once agin if it hasnt been fixed as soon as you start the car it will probaly pop rite back on ...
The P0401 code is caused by the DPFE sensor which measures the amount of EGR flow. It is very commonly misdiagnosed as the valve but you should replace the DPFE sensor. Ford has provided additional warranty on most 2001 model for 5 years or 60,000 miles which ever comes first under the program 02m01 recall.
