F150 idles too fast

Hey all, I'm new here. I just turned 15 and bought my first pick-up, an 89 F150 equiped with a 5.0L and has 4 wheel drive and a lift kit. It has a problem with the carberation. When you start it for a second it idles ok but then jumps up to 1000 to 1200 rpm and even after it warms up it will not come down. And when I drive it and go to shift gears it really messes me up because instead of the rpm dropping it jumps up to about 2000 and then slowly comes back down. If any body has an idea where we should lok I would appreciate it. Thanks, Ogre
