anyone ever had trouble with the TFI module, what are the symptoms?

They are a known failure item. If they fail, they do not allow spark to go through the distributor. They usually fail when hot and may or may not start when it cools down. If you replace it, be sure to use the grease supplied with new part.

Also make sure both mating surfaces are totally clean as the grease is a heat-sink grease and needs a clean surface to transfer heat properly.
