Default Ford key, cut and programming?

is there a way around having to pay the Ford dealership $80 to cut and program a new key for me? I just bought my '00 Ranger and it only came with one key. There is no fob for it. It has manual locks.

You can only add keys to the car if you have two currently programmed keys. If you have only one in your posetion then you must take it to a dealer for reprograming. The dealer here in town charged me $35.00. Shop arround, $80.00 is way too high for 5 minutes work.

well i called just about every ford dealer in Houston and Spring, Texas and the lowest so far is $80 Every one else is like 120 140, 100 and the likes. I'll call up some lincoln/mercury dealers, see what they charge....
