Ford Transit MK6 engine problems (suspect fuel pump)

Hi , My ford Transit MK6 2.4TD 350(87,000 miles) died on me , driving along fine , pulled out of a junction in frist gear went into second and the engine cut out , it asnt started since.

completely flatened the battery by winding it over in first gear to push me out of the middle of the road

called out the AA who had trouble getting a good jump from his jump leads , he counldnt get more than about 3 seconds of engine turning over at a time before battery completely died again , after about an hour of trying he gave up and said he suspected a fuel problem

i got a freind to tow me and we tried bump starting it in 2 , 3 , and 4 but no go ,it still wount start

took it to a transit dealer who got his mechanic to have a look , he said it sounded like it had a air lock (it was run low of fuel the day it died) and the system need bleeding , first he replaced the battery so we had power ,started turning over the engine while he cracked open the fuel injecters , at this point he said it looked like to much fuel was comeing out and suspected the fuel pump had gone , its quite a big job which he asnt got the time to do ETC..ECT

anyway , i have been told that if fuel was comeing out when he cracked open the fuel injecter , then it cant be the fuel pump gone as it shouold still fire ,but i am lost as to what it could be

in the manual it says there is a automatic fuel cut off switch (it shows it behide the clove box) , i couldnt find it but asked the AA man who said this mondel doesnt have the cut off switch

if it is the fuel pump does anyone know of anywhere that can repare them? , as ford have quoted £775 for a new one

regards

RE: Ford Transit MK6 engine problems (suspect fuel pump)

check the wireing harness connection on top of the engine, it is held together by a bolt in the middle. un do it and check the connectors in side the connection, some times a terminal is pushed back in side and it controls the starter and the pcm and the ignition +++++ lots of other important functions, also under the glove box?? there is a fuse box with 76 fuses in it if there is vacent places don't add any new ones but check for faulty ones and replace them back in to their own holes. I have also had pcm's fail. so don't spend the money until you are certain. Cheers Gary
