Gas gauge not reading correctly

We have a 1999 explorer 6 cyl. and about a week ago the gas gauge started to act up. Now it wont read past 1/4 tank and I just filled up. Does anybody have a suggestion as to what could be wrong.

check your fuse panel for a blown gage cluster fuse, to start.

I have the same problem! somtimes though it'll go up to half a tank. when it feels like it. I might not be as far along as you. mine is an '85 tempo. thanks for the help. and i'll be checking the fuse tonight.
