having cooling temp problems with 2000 ford F150 4x4
 
i have a 2000 ford f150 4x4 with 4.6L v8 and my check engine light came on and i ran the codes and it come up with insuffiecient coolant temp. i need to know where the coolant temp sending unit is located and the engine coolant temp sensor and how to check if its bad. also i know where the head temp sensor is on the front of the cylinder head but need to knowhow to check it also. thanks hope someone can help.

Might be able to be more help if you gave the exact code you received. From what you posted , I might think insufficient meant not hot enough which could mean defective thermostat, see what I mean.

i dunno what code it was i took it to autozone andthey ran the code for me and all they told me was that it said insuffiecient coolant temp and said it was probably the engine coolant temp sensor or the head temp sensor

i found the head temp sensor but i dont know how to check it and i cant find the engine coolant temp sensor

Do you have access to and know how to use a volt/ohm meter ?

Before you get too deep in diagnostics, that definition is usually a faulty thermostat. Try replacing that first. It is a cheap and easy repair and may be needed anyway.
