Headers & Chips

I'm looking to add a little pony power to my 2004 Fx4 5.4L
I purchased a K&N FIPK and an AirRaid throttle body spacer.
Next step is headers and complete exaust. Does anyone have knowledgeon aftermarket headers? Which might be a good buy, ones to stay away from. Money really isnt an issue as much as getting what I pay for. So I'm looking for some suggestions as to what headers I should purchase.
I also heard that Fords generally are great when it comes to emissions. I live in Massachusettsand wehave pretty strict emission standards when it comes time to pass inspection. I'd like to completely eliminate my CATS all together to get better sound and less air restriction. Does anyone have any experience when it comes to riding without any CATS on your truck and still being able to pass emissions? I've heard it is possible but thats just a rumor.
Now for aftermarket CHIPS and computer programers. Are they worth the money? If so, give me some brands to look into. Do they work? What should I expect from them?
I'm also looking to add some killer sound to my truck. People always talk up Flow Master but that all you ever hear drive by. Is there any other mufflers on the market that sound just as bad ass I can look into?
