Engine management programming has changed since 2001. Then you're looking at V-8 vs 3.5 Ecoboost, 3:55 vs 3:31 gears, 2WD vs 4WD, regular, super or supercrew bodies. These all make a difference in MPG. The 2nd GEN 3.5 ecoboost is strung out and runs and extra 1K RPMs to get it's peak boost at 3,500 RPMs vs the GEN 1 at 2,500 RPMs. At what highway speed is he getting his 22 MPG?. I ordered my 2015 Lariat SuperCrew in 2WD and 3:15 gears. I run 2K RPMs at 80 MPH. Drove from Yorkshire, NY to Queen Creek, AZ running 75-85 MPH and averaged 25.3 MPG. Return trip running the same averaged 22.7 MPG and that included running head on into a severe rain storm from TN all the way back to Yorkshire, NY.
