Default Jumping a starter

Hello, I know this isn't a Ford, but I have a general question about starters. I have a 96 Cavalier, and it won't start. Dash lights work, no sound or clicking. Starter was just replaced. How can I jump a starter. Do I just put the key in the run position and lay a screwdriver across the two connecting points on the starter itself? What should I do. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice, but since this is about a Chevy on a Ford forum, I just might be getting myself into more than I bargained for. Sorry for doing that. I can't tell if your being serious. Guess if I try it, I'll either let you all know it worked or post a picture with my hair everywhere like I just stuck a butter knife in a wall outlet. Oooo, tingley.

an another ole trick, was to smack the side / bottom of the starter case with a hammer , that would jar them enough to get them to spin , if the soilend wasnt bad,,,,,,, then you have to try jumping the lil term to the big term , or just run a jumper cable from the batt to the postive post on the starter with the key on ,, sparkomatic
