Keypad anti-scan feature

Hey guys,

I used to have a Lincoln Continental, and I came to love the convenience of the keypad. Well, I have a Dodge now, but I'm working on adding a keypad to it. I've purchased a new keypad from Ford and have programmed a microcontroller to handle the code input and locking/unlocking my doors. Details here: http://www.caliberforumz.com/showthread.php?t=24348

It works the same as my old one used to, but I would like to add the "anti-scan' feature to it. The only problem is, I don't know exactly how it works. I understand that you press too many buttons without a good combo and the kaypad flashes and ignores input for one minute. But I need more details.

The keypads timeout after 5 seconds. That is, if you want to enter a combo, you must type all 5 numbers within 5 seconds of each other.

All the manuals say is that the anti-scan feature starts after 35 presses. Is that 35 within a minute? 35 all within 5 seconds of each other? I don't have one to test on, so I was hoping someone here could help me. I'm trying to emulate the Ford pad as close as possible. Thanks.
