R134a in a 1988 E-150

Does anyone have experience in coverting to R134a from R12. What actaully needs done. I had 1 AC shop quote well over $1500.00 and you also get people telling me you just have a buy a cheap kit from WalMart

You can purchase the kit from a lot of places. However, you also need to evacuate the system and install the proper oil in the system. If you are not familiar with the A/C systyem, you may want to take it to a shop. You do not have to change all the componets as it was stated when the retrofit first came out. Good luck.
