SPark plug and tunning question - F150
 

Just bought my first truck, a 2004 F150 5.4L V8. I was thinking about adding a K&N Intake and a Flowmaster exhaust to the truck and changing the spark plugs, to get some more power out of the truck while hopefully scoring some fuel effiency. Can anyone recommend the correct kind of spark plugs to get? i was read about spark plugs on NGK's website and apparently there is alot to picking out the right spark plugs. different heat sinking properties and all kinds of pros and cons. I feel that the standard sparks plugs will get to hot due to the increase in air. also we it be recommended to take the truck and get tunned once the intake and exhuast systems are in place. thanks for any help.

I would use NGK's iridium spark plug in stock heat range requirement (TR6IX or IT6F13). These require less voltage to fire, thus are easier on the ignition system. Not much else to do on these in regards to a TUNE-UP, since eveything is all electronic and computer controlled. Even with modifications. Just replace the plug wires and fuel filter. I would also do the tranny fluid and filter. As far as intakes go, have you looked at the new INJEN/AMSOIL Power-Flow Intake Systems? Hi, first of all don't expect to have moe power and less fuel consumption. You have more air to the engien, you will need to more fuel, so economy of fuel. For the spark plugs, I will go with the orignial ones. BUT, be really carefully when you will remove the old ones. Those spark plugs are very special, you will see the long shape. And, depending the mileage of your truck and the previous maintenance they might break in the head as they oftenly do.
