Tough to replace a quarter panel?
My 01 Grand Marquis was smacked in a parking lot recently, crushing the right rear quarter panel and tail light housing/lens. (the gutless idiot who did it was nice enough to pick up the broken lens and left it on my trunk) My short-term solution is to find a tail light assembly at a salvage yard, bang out the dent and try to re-shape the metal to accept the housing. But I would like to eventually replace the quarter panel. Is that something a reasonably handy person can figure out on his own, or will I be in over my head? Thanks for any and all replies.

Never mind. I didn't realize until I really looked at it that the QP is welded on. I thought it was bolted on. Looks like a trip to the body shop.

Have picture of the damage?
Yes, lots of spot welds and some cuts.. I do body/paint and you'd be surprised what can be straightened.. Or, you may be able to do a section over replacing the whole panel.. Bodywork and paint finishing does get a bit involved if the parts aren't bolted on.. |
It is not easy as you think but if you have problem then you can show it to the expert and he can solve your problem very easily. So check that first. I hope it will work.
