Windstar starting issue
Hi all,
My wifes 2002 Windstar has just developed a starting issue. It tries to turn over, but won't start. The engine/starter seems to be rotating, just it is not firing up (the battery is fairly new and charged). The other day I noticed fuse #5 (15A) was blown, so I replaced it, but that did not help for the first few tries after that. Maybe on the six try it fired up. I then moved it off to the side of my driveway so I could seal my blacktop. Later that night I went out and moved it to the street and thought it was fixed. It started....no issue. Well last night I went to move it and pulled it up 10 feet and it ran fine, then I shut it off. I noticed I was a little crooked and went to start it again and it turns over, but won't fire up. I sprayed some starting fluid in and it fired up briefly, but died as I suspect it has no fuel. The fuse was fine this time. Frustrated I went in to eat dinner and came an hour later and it started fine, so I drove it back to my driveway so I can work on it if needed. I am noticing on the times it does not start that I don't hear the "whirr" of the fuel pump. When it does start I can clearly hear the pump pressurize. Could it be the fuelpump, or are there other relays, sensors or something else to look for? I really depend on this van to work for my wife and am very concerned about the reliability of this intermittent issue. Thanks |
RE: Windstar starting issue
From what you are saying this sounds like a fuel pump although check the wiring back to the fuel pump a damages wire can also cause the same issue . Replacing the fuel pump is most likely gona take care of this issue. Get a good one remember you get what you pay for...... I have noticed some of the cheep pumps that you can get last a few months than you back to replacing them again. I would rec an oe pump.
